Over the web we all met links to a website with affiliate code in it. Some of us notice this codes, some doesn’t, and some does remove them. Those, who removes affiliate refering part from link, don’t want to bear with the fact that someone will make some money on their click-thru. This is wrong. Let me explain why.

Mostly this happnds to website registrations, but it also often happends to web services and offline services. For example, let’s take a dating website. On some website you found great decription of dating site, it meets yours expectations of dating site, and you know you will go there and register. But, you see that link contains affiliate code. Here some of us are thinking close to this: “why someone will be making money just for refering me there? I found this site in Google, now I just click a link on it, and it’s owner will make some cash of it. I could find that dating site some other way!”. Usually after such thoughts, visitor copies a link, removes affiliate part and keeps only dating site domain name and goes there. This is tragedy. Why?
Because mentioned site owner has paid domain, hosting, advertising fees, maybe even paid employees for you to have a reason to get on his site. He counted on your click on that link. Who has lost? This webmaster (site owner) has lost. Now let’s see who gained? Dating website has gained. Dating website owner has expected that up to 100% of subscriptions will be referred by affiliates. He was expecting to share income with those affiliates. Now let’s say a 10,000 visitors, or even more, did the same way - removed affiliate link. What happens now? Many webmasters didn’t get expected income of click-thru and dating site owner have over-income. Now, do you want to know what happens do that dating site? Now as his owner has meet his $X-figure goal, his not actually interested in making site and service better. He just getting cash of it and already started other project or even retired. Now it’s you, as registered user of that dating site is loosing. Why? Because that’s you, and other people like you, have spent 10 seconds of your own time on removal of affiliate link.

This is true, and this is a rule of business. Any project has it’s goal, with reaching this goal, project isn’t getting any better. It just pays off many times to it’s owner and/or investors. They take money and start with new project. This is business. And business has nothing to do with your feelings to great service it may be.

We all should learn, that every link on web - does matters. Lot’s of people, new and expereinced webmasters are paying their bills expecting their links to be clicked. Their familys counting on that clicks. This is how the World Wide Web syetm works.
